UPAAS held AGM 2011
The 8th Annual General Meeting of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Singapore (UPAAS) was successfully held on March 27 at the Courtyard Room, Marina Barrage.
The management committee – officers and the committee heads – outlined the projects launched and implemented during the year. Among the notable projects presented were the Philippine launch of “Metro Cuisine” book in Novemebr, the “Usapang Rated K” which is a financial literacy talk for domestic helpers, and the Lovni Piano Concert which raised more than S$13 K for the scholarship fund.
Outgoing president Minnie Lau, in her annual report , said that the UPAAS net revenue in 2010, based on the audited statement of accounts as of Dec 31, 2010, capped S$19K. These was largely from proceeds from the MetroCuisine books, Lovni Concert and Manny Baldemor paintings.
The UPAAS Scholarship programme, on the other hand has produced five scholars: The first scholar graduated last year with a BS Biology degree, and is now enrolled in Medical School. The second scholar is graduating this April with a degree in BS Business Administration. The other three are currently enrolled in UP Diliman campus.
Consul General Nathaniel Imperial and Vice-Consul Reichel Quinones of the Philippine Embassy graced the event. Consul General Imperial addressed the members and stressed out the role of the UPAAS as a well-respected organization, and is one Filipino group to be emulated by others. Past presidents Mary Ann Chua and Howie Tan were also present in the said event.

The election of officers was held and eight new mancom members are joining the continuing mancom members. The newly elected Mancom for 2011-12 is as follows:
