Congratulations to the Awardees of The Outstanding Filipinos in Singapore 2009

Started in 2005, this award aims to recognize Filipino citizens and persons of Filipino heritage legally residing and/or working in Singapore for at least two (2) years, who have actively contributed to the enhancement of the image of the Filipino and/or the promotion of Filipino heritage and culture.

The nominees were judged according to the following criteria:

  • Work Ethic and Industry – loyalty and commitment to work.
  • Extraordinary Achievement – track record, success/excellence or distinction in their chosen career/job.
  • Moral Integrity and Community Spirit – personal integrity, kind deeds/charity work to Singaporeans and Filipinos alike or contributions to the Filipino community in Singapore.

For this year, the Philippine Independence Day Celebration 2009 Committee, in cooperation with Embassy of the Philippines, Singapore, and in partnership with the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (Singapore) proudly confer this award to the following deserving Filipinos in Singapore.

Robert N. Gan, MD

In recognition for his exemplary contributions in the field of medicine and medical research. Being the first Filipino neurology consultant in Singapore, he has been instrumental in paving the way for other Filipino neurologists to train and be exposed to the technology and medical setting in Singapore.

Martin M. Ilagan

In recognition of his strong passion in creating meaningful music that has touched the lives of the Filipino masses. Furthermore, his penchant for identifying and discovering new talents, nurturing and promoting them, until achieving musical excellence, has indeed showcased the Filipino talent to Singapore and to the whole world.

Ma. Rhodora Palomar-Fresnedi

For making a mark as a Filipino woman in her professional career by becoming the first and most senior Asian woman in an established multinational company in the consumer goods manufacturing industry. For her active participation in the furtherance of women empowerment and for her passion and commitment in community work.

Noel M. Perdigon

For showing excellence in his professional career in the field of information security governance and auditing in the banking and finance industry. Furthermore his courage to venture into entrepreneurship as a restaurateur gave birth to 7107 Flavours Restaurant, elevating the status of Philippine cuisine in the international arena.

Pamela ‘Wildheart’ G. Pilapil

In recognition of her outstanding achievements as radio presenter and producer, musician and celebrity show host, writer and lecturer, tourism advocate and media strategist, singer and actress. She has carved a name for herself in field of international media communications.

Filipino Excellence Recognition 2009

In addition to the TOFS award, the PIDC 2009 Committee also has embarked on a Filipino Excellence Recognition 2009 program which aims to recognize Filipino individuals who have showcased Filipino talent and have received formal recognition and/or award from the workplace or reputable foreign institutions and organizations in Singapore. They are of Filipino heritage legally residing and/or working in Singapore, The recognition and/or award should have been received during the year 2008.

For this year, this recognition has been conferred to:

Leah L. Ortiz

Leah is a Food and Beverage Associate at Island Café in Vivo City. She was given the distinction of joining the Tangs Service Champion Club in recognition of her professionalism and passion in providing excellent customer service. The recognition was given by the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

These are truly Filipinos we can all be proud of! Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino!
